Biography
ConukRA LLC, often simply known as ConukRA, is an emerging independent production company founded in 2024 by Cecilia Altagracia Caraballo Acevedo (bienvara) and Lyna Zidane, whose collaboration began during their time attending Emerson College.
Our mission is intrinsically linked to our company name, which draws inspiration from the terms “Conuco” —derived from the taíno word “kunuku.” meaning a plot of land for subsistence cultivation, rooted in traditional Dominican agriculture; and the Algerian expression “RA” – “ر ” as an echo of Châabi culture & folk song traditions. “ر ” neither laying down nor standing up, humorously personifies the awkward but increasingly painful nature of the letter’s disposition and its state of in-between.
The combination of this state that brought us together– a shared circumstance (ra) and what we’ve chosen to make out of it (conuco) is Conukra; the land from which our movies grow, a place for planting cherry trees.
