Fiscal Sponsorship

FC offers low cost fiscal sponsorship to independent filmmakers around the world. For 35 years we have have provided sponsorship and support to hundreds of filmmakers managing more than $50 million in grants and donations.

Many foundations will only issue grants to non-profits. Instead of forming their own 501(c)3 organization, filmmakers often align themselves with FC, allowing them to apply for a wide range of funding opportunities and to offer their individual donors a tax deduction.

We maintain an application procedure for sponsorship and filmmakers whose projects are accepted must demonstrate high professional standards, as well as a viable project plan and budget. As a supporting organization, FC is responsible for supervising the overall fiscal management of the project. This includes administering funds received in support of the project, overseeing the expenditure of funds to ensure adherence to the approved budget and funder requirements, and monitoring funder reporting requirements.

All creative control belongs to the filmmaker, who must operate as a separate legal entity.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and are reviewed by FC staff. Decisions are made within 1-2 weeks after acceptance of all necessary materials.

To be considered, your project can fall into any of the following categories:

a) documentaries and other works of nonfiction;
b) narrative, experimental, and animated features;
c) websites and other digital projects.

Please prepare all your materials outlined here and send to: laura@filmmakerscollab.org

Thank you for your interest in FC!

The application process will require you to prepare the following documents:

1. A thoughtful, clearly written proposal (2-5 pp) with an introductory paragraph that concisely explains the stage of your project and the amount of money you hope to raise.

2. A fundraising strategy (1-2 pp).

3. A budget

4. CV’s or bios of principle production personnel (generally, 1 paragraph per person).

5. A video sample, if available, of either the project for which you are applying or of past project that indicates your work, via Vimeo or YouTube.

If accepted into Filmmakers Collaborative, the filmmaker will be responsible for a $200 membership fee ( first year only).
