Susan Gray, Director, Writer, Producer

Susan Gray is an award-winning, veteran documentary filmmaker who began her career at the Colombia Journalism School of Journalism with a film about the gentrification of Harlem which won the prize for best documentary film. She honed her reporting skills producing, writing and directing films for Hedrick Smith, a double Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and television film producer who exemplified brilliance in reporting and dedication to bringing truth and under-reported stories of injustice to light.  Her films have aired on PBS, National Geographic, Discovery, Arte, Channel 4, Canal Plus, NHK, Sundance, Showtime, Disney and more, as well as festivals and theaters worldwide.  She has covered racial justice, industry cover up of worker exposure to toxic chemicals, systemic threats to democracy, prisoner sentencing, struggling youth in post-colonial societies, equality in education, and the science behind climate change.  Susan has a master’s degree in Social Change and Development and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced international Studies and worked in primary education for USAID in South Africa. As a director and writer, she has been nominated for an Emmy Award, the NAACP Image Award, the Adolf Grimme Award, and won the Cindy Award, the Prix Europa, and the best of Input (public television worldwide) among many other television and festival awards.
