Biography

Jim Kane is a change agent working at the intersection of food, travel and social impact. For over twenty years he has been an ambassador for transformational travel as the founder of an award-winning boutique tour operator, as a thought leader, speaker and Emcee at adventure and food travel forums around the globe, and most recently as the creator and producer of The Food Principle docuseries whose first season is airing on PBS.

Jim believes food and travel offer unmatched potential to engage people, connect cultures, and catalyze meaningful change in our world. And The Food Principle reflects this, using food as a lens of understanding to enable us to act upon many of the global challenges of our time, from climate change and biodiversity loss, to health and healing, to social justice and inclusion.

The Food Principle transports viewers into adventures side-by-side visionaries fighting at the front lines of conservation, connection and community. Our expert guides in this quest range from indigenous farmers to world-renowned chefs, from conservation biologists to food waste activists, and many more. And the global backdrop for this vivid gustatory expedition is equally wide-ranging: from tropical rainforests to urban jungles, seed labs to secret gardens, and lofty mountains to the high seas.

Throughout, we hope to inspire wonder, empathy and action, and to learn how each of us can make a difference, whether at home in our communities or halfway around the world.

The Food Principle is currently in production for Season 2.

Jim Kane is a change agent working at the intersection of food, adventure and social impact. For twenty years he has been an ambassador for transformational travel as the founder of an award-winning boutique tour operator, the creator and host of a short film series, and as a thought leader, speaker and Emcee at adventure and food travel forums around the globe.

In 2015 Jim created Off the Table, a video series spotlighting the stories of visionary chefs and passionate producers, as a way to showcase food’s ability to connect travelers more deeply to local culture, people and traditions around the world. One episode, Andean Wellspring, was chosen as an official selection of the 2019 Sonoma International Film Festival.

Over the course of a dozen episodes and under the tutelage of passionate chefs, scientists and food system activists, Jim awoke to food’s unmatched potential to confront many of humanity’s greatest challenges: from climate to conservation, and from health to social justice. And while this broader story felt vital and urgent, it had grown beyond Off the Table’s scope. The Food Principle was born.

We’ll explore this idea together with our viewers, transporting them into adventures side-by-side visionaries fighting at the front lines of conservation & community.
