The Search for Hope

A film by Paul Venton

This is a dramatic and emotional film about the gritty determination and resilience of everyday people as they protect and restore the stunningly beautiful and life-giving natural world in the face of extremely challenging circumstances. It is a search for hope for our families, communities and wondrous planet, found in local people’s stories of triumph over disaster.

At a time of great disruption to the Earth’s climate and the depletion of formerly abundant and biodiverse ecosystems, creating a widespread sense of despair and sadness, the inspiring stories of these guardians of nature will be a reminder of the indomitable human spirit and our capacity for good.

The journey begins in the Arctic and will continue to awe-inspiring mountains, forests, rivers, coasts, peatlands, drylands and marine environments in all corners of the world, home to iconic wildlife species. In these places we will experience how immense environmental and climate challenges coincide with ordinary people’s lives–as they go to school and work, cook dinner, laugh with friends…and face disaster. But rather than focus on the typical disaster narrative about victims and scenes of loss and destruction through storms, floods, drought, heatwaves, wildfires, and ice melting, the film will show how incredible everyday people can be when faced with a crisis: how they demonstrate resolve and find the strength to strive for a brighter future.

The local stories of hope in the toughest circumstances shown in this film will be woven together to help us realise that we too can draw on our innate spirit of unyielding determination to fuel the nature restoration of our planet.
