Grow the Circle

A film by Ginamarie Hite

A troubled young woman dismisses a letter claiming to be from her future self, urging her to find a misprinted bottle cap to escape a life of misery. But when her girlfriend insists they follow the clues, the mysterious search unravels an adventure too compelling to ignore.

This 10-minute live-action film takes place inside an unfamiliar house, filled with an assortment of whimsical puzzles that create a surreal world. Their journey explores the connections between pain, laughter, and perspective, serving as a love letter for anyone who needs the quiet courage to believe in happiness again.

Inspired by the model “Growing Around Grief” by Louis Tonkin, Grow the Circle visually discusses the idea of creating joy around pain, with the story aiming to be particularly relatable to those who have endured adverse childhood experiences. There is no guidebook for entering a normal world after growing up in a house on fire, but each clue from the future acts as a life lesson to help integrate pain from the past.

While happiness is never guaranteed, Grow the Circle promises that it is at least always possible. It invites its audience to see pain not as the end of someone’s story, but as the soil from which something beautiful can still grow.
