Legacy

Legacy follows three people whose distinct life experiences led them to restorative justice. One character, Supreme Hassan (pictured above), was involved in someone’s murder at 18 years old, and spent 30+ years in prison outside of Boston, MA. During this time, Supreme started holding restorative justice circles in prison to bring together people who had committed violent crimes with people outside of the prison who had experienced violent crimes. Mahogony Payne, a mother who lost her son to murder, attended the first circle ever held in the prison. It was transformational to everyone there. Mahogony and Supreme have since built a relationship, each helping the other to heal, and now together mentor a young person who broke out of the school to prison pipeline in New York City, Aaliyah Guillory. The film weaves these three stories together, capturing the power and healing that comes through restorative justice, from voices across different generations, genders, and life experiences.
