Biography

Jamal Grant is the Lead Producer and Filmmaker of Ubuntu Rising, a documentary exploring wealth inequality and the Black experience across the U.S. and South Africa. Born in Boston to Trinidadian immigrants, Jamal is a first-generation American whose career spans engineering, consulting, and social impact. He began as an aerospace systems engineer at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and later worked in management consulting at Bain & Company and in social impact venture capital.

He is also the Founder of The NET Mentoring Group, a STEM nonprofit supporting underrepresented youth. Academically, Jamal earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from UMass Lowell (2015) and a dual MBA from MIT Sloan and MPA from Harvard Kennedy School (both 2022). His work sits at the intersection of technology, community empowerment, and storytelling, with a focus on reimagining economic and social systems for historically marginalized communities.
