A film by J.R. Hardman

Producer: J.R. Hardman

REENACTRESS is a feature-length documentary that delves into the little-known subculture of women who cross-dress as men to portray soldiers at Civil War reenactments. These female military reenactors are on a mission to raise awareness of the true history of over 400 women who disguised themselves as men to serve in the American Civil War on both sides of the conflict.

REENACTRESS is told through the eyes of director, J.R. Hardman, who infiltrates the masculine world of military reenacting by becoming a “reenactress” herself in spite of discouragement from the conservative living history community that often shuns women in the ranks.
