HENRY’S WORLD features Henry Searcy, a 43-year-old man in West Palm Beach, Florida, who was so intellectually disabled when he was born that doctors recommended he be institutionalized. Instead, his parents chose to provide their son with round-the-clock companionship in the form of tutors who would also be friends. There have been sixteen tutors to date, and they have married into the family and become part of the tight knit community that makes up Henry’s world. Therapists have become family friends, and today Henry is at the center of a global network of people touched and inspired by his life. This film demonstrates the transforming power of love and acceptance, and redefines what a “good life” can be.
It is the newest film in a series called “Stories from the Spectrum,” showcasing the lives of autistic teens and adults. Henry enjoys his life to the fullest, and his story will help audiences appreciate the beauty of life on the autism spectrum, while also encouraging and bringing hope to families navigating new diagnoses for their children.
We seek $85,000 in production funding, so that we can shoot and edit this film in the coming months and finish it by the end of 2017.
