The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a development grant of $75,000 as part of the “We the People” initiative for Tracy Strain’s Lorraine Hansberry Documentary Project.

The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded the following two FC projects $70,000 scripting grants: Cash: The Documentary, the true story of Johnny Cash produced by Kathryn Dietz and Ambrica Productions, and The Big Show in Bololand, a documentary about the work of the American Relief Administration to combat starvation in the new Soviet Russia from 1921-23 produced by Austin Hoyt.

The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded Joe Papp in Five Acts, produced by Tracie Holder, a $50,000 post-production grant and Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women, produced by Nancy Porter and Harriet Reisen, a $10,000 post-production grant.

Two FC projects have been awarded ITVS grants for their documentary film projects. Maria Agui Carter received a $150,000 grant for her film, Rebel, about a Cuban woman who disguised herself as a man to fight in the Civil War. Michal Goldman was awarded $110,000 for At Home in Utopia, a documentary about a grass-roots and member-driven Jewish labor housing cooperative in the Bronx, founded in the 1920s.
