This film provides in-depth portraits of ten individuals from China’s Generation X, a social group unlike any other in Chinese history. They come from across China’s sprawling landscape, from vast neon-lit cities, to ramshackle provincial towns and remote villages. Some live on the cutting edge of this new world, while others seem to have been left behind. Together their stories of success and desperation put a human face on China’s breathtaking transformation.
The film had a theatrical release in April, 2008, and aired on “Front Line” (PBS) in June 2008, just before the Beijing Olympics. The producers intend to make follow-up films on these same individuals, to be released every five years through 2024.
Young and Restless in China recently received several awards:
From the Chicago International Film Festival Hugo Television Awards: the Silver Plaque
From the Telly Awards: the Bronze Telly

RI International Film Festival: Official Selection
