Each year millions of children die needlessly; two million children under the age of five die because they were not immunized with common vaccines, almost two million children die of malaria, three million die from AIDS and many more die from water–borne diarrhea, famine, and war. Around the world children wake up every day to face a difficult life where food, clean water, and basic life necessities are not guaranteed. UNICEF estimates that there are over 121 million primary school–age children out of school, deprived of their right to education because of poverty or war.
Kid To Kid will show the needs and hopes of children in crisis around the world. It will tell the stories of children who are trying to survive in the face of grinding poverty, deadly wars, crippling diseases, and devastating natural disasters. We will follow children through their daily life experiences in the countries of Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Haiti, and Chad. We will also show how people are combatting the many problems children of the world face in their daily survival.
The first film of the Kid to Kid project,Tsunami Children, was completed and has been used by UNICEF. It tells the stories of children in Sri Lanka and Indonesia whose lives were affected by the 2004 tsunami. Other films telling children’s stories from other parts of the world are in research and seeking funding.
