3 DOCUMENTARIES ABOUT GROUNDBREAKERS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM

The Justice Project I: Alec Karakatsanis

$5000 bail for a traffic stop. $3500 for trespassing. Lives upended. Now, a young civil rights attorney takes on a municipal Goliath — Harris County, Texas — in a battle to end misdemeanor bail practices that victimize the poor. Can a radical legal strategy end decades of injustice?

Fresh out of law school with a clerkship and a few years as a DC public defender on his resume, Alec Karaktsanis set off on a mission. He visited courtroom after courtroom in small towns and cities across America, researching ways to apply a new legal strategy to fight the criminalization of the poor.
