In My Father’s Church is a father-daughter story with a twist. Filmmaker Charissa King, a lesbian, ponders whether to ask her father, who is a Methodist pastor, a loaded question: can she and her partner get married in his church?
Providing a backdrop for the filmmaker’s personal story are recent historic events in the United Methodist church, including the trial of United Methodist minister Jimmy Creech and interviews with Creech and Gregory Dell, both under fire for performing holy unions between same-sex couples.
The film also follows the journey of these brides to the altar and the highs and lows each experiences along the way. In My Father’s Church is a compelling, humorous, and poignant exploration of this important and relevant debate over what marriage really means. The film aims to encourage honest dialogue between people with differing views on homosexuality.
