Jenny Alexander
Jenny Alexander brings experience as a union and community organizer to her work as a filmmaker. She produced and directed Undocumented Workers: A Look at the Invisible Workforce”, a documentary that follows the experiences of undocumented immigrant workers in Boston. The film appeared in the Cambrige Latino Film Festival, the Labor Film Festival, and was used to mobilize for May Day 2001, an event in support of undocumented immigrants’ rights.
The sample reel for her current project, Dream Deferred was made in collaboration with a group of East Boston High School students, GOALS, who are organizing in support of access to higher education for immigrant students. The ten-minute piece has been incorporated in the students and advocates’ campaign to pass federal and state legislation that would remove barriers keeping immigrant students from going to college. She continues in the production of the documentary, following the students as they navigate high school and organize to pass legislation that would make it possible for them to attend college.
Jenny has been a teacher’s assistant at BFVF, with the Rockport College film program, and the Maine International Film and Television Workshops.
