Jean Mudge
Jean McClure Mudge, PhD., Producer and Writer, is a documentary filmmaker and author of nonfiction books in the field of American Studies. She has produced an award-winning series on early American writers, EMILY DICKINSON (host Julie Harris), HERMAN MELVILLE (with poet Richard Wilbur), and EDGAR ALLAN POE (with poet Dave Smith). The Emerson project is the fourth in that series.
The Dickinson film won a Red Ribbon at the American Film Festival, was showcased on Great Performances, and in 2006, won an award at the Taiwan Women’s Film Festival. Mudge’s MARY LYON: PRECIOUS TIME (Julie Harris again) was also shown on PBS. Her book, Emily Dickinson and the Image of Home, inspired the Dickinson film. Another book by Mudge, The Poet and the Dictator: Lauro de Bosis Resists Fascism in Italy and America, has been optioned for a feature film.
